Types of Braces
Since Drs. Matthew Dunn and Courtney Dunn are not exclusively aligned with any single manufacturer of orthodontic products, they can independently choose the best products from each company. With this independence, they can offer many types of braces to fit your specific needs.
Traditional Metal
These are what most people envision when they think of braces. 
In recent years, there have been significant technological advancements in these types of braces that have decreased their size and thickness providing for increased comfort and better hygiene.
Great news! Recently, multiple independent studies have shown that traditional braces work just as well as other types of braces. In addition to working just as well, they cost significantly less and allow you the fun option of adding colors to your braces that can be changed at every appointment. You can cheer for your school team one month and get colors to coordinate with every holiday!
Clear Braces
For those who don’t want the look of traditional braces, we offer ceramic (clear) braces. They are just as effective as traditional braces, but are much less noticeable. Many celebrities, including Tom Cruise, have chosen clear braces for their orthodontic treatment.
Great news! We now offer the Clarity™ SL bracket system. This brand new bracket technology provides all of the esthetic benefits of a clear bracket without the concern of discoloration.
Self-Ligating Brackets (Damon System, In-Ovation, Smart Clip, Time3, Speed, Vision LP)
Unlike traditional braces, self-ligating braces have a built-in mechanism to hold the wire in place. Since elastic ties are not used, you cannot choose different colors with these brackets. 
It was once thought that self-ligating brackets resulted in less discomfort and shorter treatment times (less time in braces). Unfortunately, recent findings have shown this to NOT be true. While self-ligating brackets are still used by many orthodontists for a variety of reasons, research has shown them to work no better or worse than traditional braces.
